Embedded Linux

In embedded systems, Linux has demonstrated great versatility and flexibility; compared to traditional operating systems, Linux is extremely adaptable to a number of architectures. In addition, it is backed by a large community of developers that is continually enriched by new contributions. These reasons have prompted Akhela to be one of the first in Italy to adopt open source Linux platforms for the design and development of certain systems, particularly in the automotive sector, and to collaborate with the Genivi consortium to create an open source platform for infotainment.

Akhela has also launched Amakha, an embedded Linux distribution "branded" by Akhela. Compared to the other distributions on the market, Amakha is an operating system that comes complete with development kit and debugging tools, making it particularly useful for developers of embedded and real-time systems.

In addition to the general advantages offered by embedded Linux, Amakha incorporates a number of features that specifically facilitate product design and development:

  • The power and versatility of Amakha allows it to be used on devices with minimal hardware resources as well as on extremely powerful devices, making it the ideal choice for building any type of embedded, desktop or server system.
  • Amakha incorporates powerful native and cross-compilation tools for numerous pre-defined and easily personalised devices. There are over 5000 pieces of software available, including the most popular libraries (such as uclib, glibc, qt4, gtk).
  • Amakha has its own community and is committed to maintaining it as an amicable forum for exchanging information and discussions about the future of Amakha.
